January 24-Feburary 1st: We completed a unit on Poetry using the poems "Hanging Fire" by Audre Lorde and "Teenagers" by Pat Mora. Students taught lessons they prepped for using "Identity" by Julio Polanco and "Hard on the Gas" by Janet Wong. Students also took a quiz using the poem "Mercy" by Teri Ellen Cross Davis February 04-February 14: We have begun a unit entitled, "Is 16 Too Young to Drive" Below are copies of notes and materials used.

So Far Students have read a passage set based on the NY Times "Room For Debate" series. Their texts and topic were "When do Teenagers become Adults?" The passages are available in the text link above. For the past two weeks students have completed the assignments attached below.

Students began working on Argumentative Essays on Cyber Bullying (Standard) for some groups and for others on Henrietta Lacks and Biomedical Ethics (Honors) Last Week and this week will finish then begin the Peer Review Cycle. Keep in Mind Students lost Instructional Time this and Last Week due to Mid-Year Testing. Results from testing for my ELA Class will be sent home the week we return from Winter Break and will look similar to the Thanksgiving Data Newsletter.

We are all adjusting to being back in school from Thanksgiving Break and the scholars are working hard! This week 8th Grade finished Marigolds by Eugenia Collier and began by finishing the text in an analysis chart in the "Class Notes" portion of their Class Notebook in Microsoft Teams. They then wrote an essay in the "Writing Portfolio" portion of the Class Notebook. To Access the Class Notebook in Microsoft Teams

This week students will take their Unit 1 Assessment based on Standards taught in the previous marking period. This assessment will be used as a gauge for what individual students have mastered and also what they may need additional support with. We are also starting a new unit on Approaching Adulthood that can be found in Microsoft Teams in the File Library for your class. (use the OneView Link).
